Functional Myofascial Release

Myofascial Kinesis Structural Integration (MKSI)

  • Progressively reorganizes whole-body structure, posture, and movement
  • A progressive 10-session series
  • Follows a deliberate sequence through the Foundations, Core, and Integration phases
  • Each session builds upon the structural changes developed previously
  • Uses Myofascial Kinesis and guided movement to address interconnected structural relationships
  • The sequence may adapt or pause when pain, injury, or a flare-up requires immediate attention

Every treatment is delivered through the science-informed, assessment-driven Empirical Knead Functional Model. The treatments differ in their primary intent, scope and progression. Each positively influences the cellular production of connective tissue the process of Mechanotransduction.

The body adapts to the forces and movements you repeatedly give it—whether those forces are helpful or compensatory. Our job is to change the input and reeducate the production of fascia at the cellular level. 

That is Mechanotransduction: the process by which mechanical force is converted into cellular and biochemical signals. Through strategic manual therapy and functional movement, we influence the mechanical information received by connective-tissue cells, including fibroblasts, supporting extracellular-matrix remodeling, collagen organization, and more structurally efficient tissue adaptation. 

Reinforced by movement therapies that we will recommend and follow up in post session notes, a summary of our treatment and findings, and movement therapies specific to you and your structural presentation. Intended to reinforce the treatment therapies in our clinic and further the biochemical signals that results of our work. When these mechanical inputs are applied consistently—through both treatment and functional movement therapy—they can reinforce and extend the structural remodeling initiated during the session, increasing the potential for lasting functional change

Functional Movement:                                                                                 How Biomechanics, Gravity, and Fascia Shape Our Structure

Functional movement is the body’s ability to move efficiently while maintaining balance against gravity. Ideally, the head is centered over the shoulders, the shoulders over the hips, and the hips over the knees and ankles, with the feet supported by a balanced three-point arch system. This organization gives us our greatest potential to move from point A to point B with balance, ease, and less unnecessary strain.

Human movement is described through three primary cardinal planes, along with oblique or multi-planar movement:

  • Sagittal: Forward-and-back movement, such as running, bending, a biceps curl, or a forward lunge.
  • Frontal or coronal: Side-to-side movement, such as a lateral raise or side lunge.
  • Transverse: Rotational movement, such as a horizontal wood chop.
  • Oblique or multi-planar: Diagonal movement combining several planes, as occurs during Frisbee, tennis, soccer, cutting, pivoting, reaching, and throwing.

Movement occurs around an axis perpendicular to each plane. When one joint or region cannot move efficiently within its intended plane, the body redirects that movement elsewhere. Muscles designed to be prime movers may become stabilizers, while stabilizers may be recruited to produce movement. When this becomes habitual, it can contribute to inefficient movement, restriction, pain, and whole-body compensation.
