Tangible Muscle Theory:  A method of massage based on how the body’s musculature works together. Using the pain source as a reference point to get to the root cause.

I have worked with the public and on myself for several years also along with studying health and wellness online and through books. I have begun to integrate a massage modality based on how the musculature of the body works together to function. I call this modality Tangible Muscle Theory or TMT for short. Muscles usually work together in groups or pairs to perform action/motion. These actions are have three parts: a protagonist, antagonist, and synergist. To perform the action/motion, for example a flexion at the elbow, the protagonist /main mover in this case, is the bicep. The antagonist would be the triceps, and the synergist would be the brachialis of the side of your upper arm. Muscles need all parts to be working together properly just like a machine in order to perform properly without dysfunction. The idea that an issue in your triceps (antagonist) would potentially cause a pain in your bicep (protagonist) is the very first principle of my method Tangible Muscle Theory (TMT). The following are the 4 principles of TMT.

Four Principles of TMT

1.       Pain caused by agonist or synergist muscle.

2.       Main mover or other muscles at the joint proximal or distal to the pained muscle or joint.

3.      Muscle that touch, share attachment point or fascia I’ll call this a kinetic chain.

4.      Postural, nerve compression, activities of daily living and fascia.
