At the most basic level, my goal is to create space in the body. Space in the joints so that movement occurs without damaging the joint, allowing for the fullest, free range of motion. Space throughout the many layers of soft tissue so that muscles, organs, and fascia all glide effortlessly across each other, allowing each component to function optimally while providing optimum conditions that will prevent disease and injury from affecting the body as a whole.Every body is unique. What will work for one person will not work for another. What allows one person to relax will inevidably stimulate another. My intent is simple... to help you move freely without pain or dysfunction, to help you relax, to help you identify where and how the dysfunction has taken hold so that you can make choices for your own well-being. I am a Holistic practitioner. In essence this means that I treat or consider all of you when trying to identify cause of symptoms. This may be as simple as helping you to identify unconscious patterns throughout your daily life, whether sitting, hiking, working, resting...all of these activities have the ability to develop patterns in the body that may eventually limit your ability to move without restriction.
There is so much to learn about how the body works and how it finds restoration. For instance, most acute injuries are the result of an event that the body could not manage properly. This is often because prior to an accident there was already a loss of movement somewhere within the body, When an injury occurs, the force that moves through the body will get "stuck" in an area that has restricted movement. This often results in either a strain or sprain in the soft tissue, like muscles, tendons and ligaments, or when there is no "give" in the soft tissue, it can result in the bone fractures.
My particular style focuses on relaxing and stretching muscles and fascia to free blockages or barriers to movement. If I press down on one shoulder and the entire body shifts along with it, it indicates to me that it has lost independent function. Whatever happens to that shoulder is going to affect the rest of the body. I use many tools or modalities to loosen and restore fascia and deep tissue, but every body responds differently to each process. Your body, will determine what will work! To that end, I use a combination of several modalities which include, but are not limited to: Passive stretching, MET (Muscle Energy Technique), Massage Cupping, Active Release, Myofascial Release, Hot Stones, Hydrotherapy, Intraoral, and the usual suspects.. Swedish and Deep tissue.
In my experience, most people have a very limited understanding of how the body works. In school, health class covers nutrition but doesn't explain why specifically certain foods nurture us and others create dysfunction. We are well educated on sexual function and how to avoid disease and pregnancy, but no one talks about how to have a healthy reproductive system or what the term "stress kills" really means. Most of us think we just need to calm down! One of the beautiful things about massage and bodywork is that they provide a perfect opportunity to learn about yourself and your body, while also caring for yourself and your body.
Finally, whatever the need... my intent is that everyone should receive the care they need. If your needs are better served by another practitioner or another health professional, I will refer you. Knowing you are well and cared for, and knowing that I contributed in any way to your well-being is a pretty great thing. :) hide
