Massage Therapy Education:

  • Amy earned an Associate of Applied Science in Massage Therapy from Northwestern Health Sciences University. Her time there was an excellent foundation for understanding soft tissue & to know what to do with it! Previously having earned a Bachelor of Arts & working in the professional world, this career shift embraces many of her natural gifts, interest in overall wellness with a desire for life changing impact through an evidence based practice.
  • A favorite course was "Special Populations" which revealed the role that massage therapy can play in a host of unique conditions. What made the most profound impact, however, was seeing a cadaver dissection where the texture and lines of fascia illuminated her perspective beyond any previous images or experiences of building muscles with clay.
  • Since then, Amy has continued her education in innumerable ways including Orthopedic Massage Therapy & fascial release techniques.
Notable Experiences:

  • Hospital Internship ~ Amy was chosen for a 15 week internship at Abbott Northwestern Hospital through the Penny George Institute where she used a combination of massage therapy & Foot Reflexology on patients throughout the hospital. In addition, she was able to shadow acupuncturists, other massage therapists & a music therapist in every department of the hospital. Medical professionals referred these patients to complimentary therapies for pain, nausea and stress management.
  • Case Study on Hypertension ~ Amy researched, designed then practiced a 10 week case study on a woman with hypertension, combining Foot Reflexology & massage therapy. The results were incredible in and of themselves but the experience revealed to her a much greater role for these kinds of complimentary modalities in health care.
  • Chiropractor Clinic ~ Over 5 years of working with an extremely skilled chiropractor gave Amy an ideal foundation in the massage industry. Clients ranged from elite athletes to children & seniors all in different stages of life & health.
  • Mariposa Integrative Free Clinic, Costa Rica ~ In addition to a variety of local clinic rotations, Amy spent time doing massage therapy on Costa Ricans at a free clinic. This experience illuminated her perspective on soft tissue manipulation in significant ways given the different diet, lifestyle & approach to healing she discovered with these grateful recipients of her work. -- It was also a lot of fun to practice Spanish in a health care setting & work with the teenage translators throughout her time there!
  • Spa Massage Therapy ~ Among her strong clinical foundation, Amy embraces the nurturing aspect of bodywork & the role that true relaxation can play in the body's healing faculties. Receiving incredible spa treatments from around the world, and now working in spa environments, has illuminated the subtle nuances that create a rejuvenating adventure. Everyone deserves massage that is both healing and conscious of the entire experience. (Maybe one day we can offer the benefits of natural hot springs and volcanic mud baths at Beautiful Life Bodywork!) :) :)

Amy has such an incredible wealth of knowledge about the body and it perfectly compliments her natural and wonderful sense of touch. It also doesn't hurt that when she needs to communicate with your during your session she has such a calming voice. I would recommend anyone looking for massage for purposeful therapeutic benefits or just to feel good see Amy.

Amy, Thanks so much for all your work! It's been great to have 4 sessions in a row with you. I really enjoyed it and think it's been beneficial. Also, my neck is a little sore today, but much less so than after our last session. Thanks again!

Amy is an amazing professional. She immediately establishes a positive and comfortable rapport. She is very knowledgeable about the body and how to relieve pain or just provide relaxation. I have not ever worked with a massage therapist who spends time asking questions and listening as extensively in order to ensure your massage is exactly what you need and want. The atmosphere is relaxing and clean. The linens she uses are luxurious! I would recommend Amy to anyone looking for a massage! She is the most talented massage therapist I have ever worked with!
