I completed my studies in massage therapy in the fall of 2020 at the Louisiana Institute of Massage Therapy. I studied a variety of massage modalities ranging from deep tissue, to Swedish to sports massage. My practice combines a mix of these modalities while also, applying the necessary techniques in response to my clients' needs and goals for treatment.
I have a background as a dancer and that has inspired my love of body movement, body connection and healing through the body.
I also have a deep appreciation of ongoing research in the field of Somatics and the study of how trauma is held both mentally, as well as, physically in the body. An appreciation of this research and perspective on trauma and the body, deeply influenced my desire to become a massage therapist. I believe that deepening our connection to our bodies can facilitate a deeper healing within ourselves. The name “ home in the body massage” was inspired by the Rupi Kaur poem posted below.
“ Look Down at your body
Whisper
There is no home like you
Thank you’- Rupi Kaur
To me, this poem speaks to the importance of being grateful for all that our bodies do for us. The mechanisms of the body, physiologically, are designed to keep us safe, healthy and protect us, yet there can often be an alienation or even hostility we feel towards our own bodies because of how we have learned to relate to them. I believe that this is a very violent and insidious way in which we are removed from our power.
Feeling a sense of belonging and home in our bodies is how I believe we deserve to experience our bodies and I seek to foster that experience through my bodywork and massage therapy practice.
