Your body's ability to heal is greater than anyone has permitted you to believe.

Back in the late 70s or early 80s I was introduced to the concept of massage therapy by a mentor, my (then) Campfire Girls' Leader who was learning a new career in massage therapy. I have never forgotten the feeling I had, yet it took me several decades to enroll in school.

I graduated from the Holistic Massage Program at Spa Tech Institute in Westbrook, Maine and currently practice as a Licensed Massage Therapist and Associate Polarity Practitioner at both Shallie's Place in Mars Hill and every other Sunday at Portland Massage Company in Portland, ME. I have over 50 hours of advanced clinical training with MaryAnn Butts, LMT.

I use a combination of Swedish, Myofascial, Polarity, Neuromuscular, Reflexology and Range of Motion to offer massage for all ages. Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress-related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress. Massage is an effective tool for managing this stress, which translates into decreased anxiety, enhanced sleep quality, greater energy, improved concentration and increased circulation.

The benefits of regular massage are mind-blowing! Massage can also help specifically address a number of health issues. Bodywork can:

  • Alleviate low-back pain and improve range of motion.
  • Assist with shorter, easier labor for expectant mothers and shorten maternity hospital stays.
  • Ease medication dependence.
  • Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
  • Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
  • Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
  • Improve the condition of the body's largest organ—the skin.
  • Increase joint flexibility.
  • Lessen depression and anxiety.
  • Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks.
  • Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
  • Reduce postsurgery adhesions and swelling.
  • Reduce spasms and cramping.
  • Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
  • Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
  • Relieve migraine pain.

I am excited to share my passion for the healing power of touch by providing massage and polarity therapy; and to share my passion for massage therapy through educating on the extraordinary benefits of the physiological and psychological changes that take place when you have regular, skilled bodywork.
