, effectively and accurately. Customized sessions restore freedom of movement, and provide immediate relief, so it’s easier to stay “in the zone,” and to recover more quickly when an injury or chronic pain & stress get in the way of the life you want to live.
A
lifelong interest in health and healing led me to graduate in 2001 from the
Lakeside School of Massage Therapy in Milwaukee, WI, and to complete a private mentorship to become a
Focus Touch Shiatsu practitioner; an American form of an Eastern healing technique. I continued my education by concurrently completing a
4 year advanced certification program in Energy Work, from Inner Focus School.
This training in holistic wellness and energy work
helps me find problem areas more quickly, with a greater ability to resolve them on all levels, body, mind and spirit. This means relieving pain and stress more completely than traditional massage alone can do.
This isn’t something I learned only in a classroom. For almost 10 years I lived with
unrelenting sciatic pain, (running from my lower back and down my leg). Massage and shiatsu definitely helped, and yet I couldn’t get rid of ALL the pain and keep it away completely, until I began to use what I learned from the field of energy work.
In just two sessions which addressed both the physical issues and the energetic/emotional/mental contributions to the problem, the
pain left and has never returned. That was 17 years ago!
I wanted to help create that experience of freedom for others, and I’ve been practicing massage and energy work as my primary occupation ever since.
Some of the most
pivotal moments in my own practice have included work which has allowed clients to
avoid back and neck surgery, relieve chronic pain when nothing else worked,
restore movement in frozen shoulders,
speed up recovery after injuries or surgeries such as hip and knee replacements, and many more.
In addition to my private practice, I partnered with Lyn Lake Chiropractic in the uptown area of Minneapolis for 6 years. I do occasionally substitute there, though I no longer see clients at their locations. I've worked with runners, cross-fit members, weight lifting competitors, the biking community, various athletes , accident victims and chronic pain sufferers. With my 20+ years of experience, I’ve developed
a system to provide specialized massage (Ultimate Pain Relief Series) to those whose pain, stress and muscle tension may be stopping them from being the best they can be and truly enjoying what they do.
I love being active myself.. Riding my bike, even in Minnesota winters, has taught me so much about what my body and mind can do, and being outdoors, whether biking, hiking, snow-shoeing, camping or canoeing, helps me decompress from the challenges in my work and the stress we all face from time to time. In fact, it works so well that my wife (also in the holistic healing field) and I often take clients to the wilderness of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area in northern Minnesota for retreats, bodywork, healing and life-coaching experiences together. It's just one more way experience has taught me to take a whole body, whole life approach on the road to well-being; it's about having the freedom to enjoy life and be of service.
