I came to massage in a funny way--through scrapbooking! I was a vendor at a scrapbooking event, and there was a massage therapist on site providing chair and table massage to the participants. I paid for a 20 minute massage and while I received it, it suddenly occurred to me that this was something that I would like to know more about. I went home and researched schools near me, and two weeks later I was enrolled in Massage school.

I chose to attend a 900 hour program at the National Massage Therapy Institute in Egg Harbor Township, NJ, since they were close in proximity to me and also because they offered 900 hours, while other, similar schools were offering less. Through my research I discovered that to be licensed in NJ, I would need a minimum of 500 hours of schooling, but that the minimums would be increasing in the near future. It was definitely easier in my mind to attend for 900 hours (9 months) than to attend a 500 hour program. I was trained in Swedish, deep tissue, sports, pre-and peri natal, reflexology, and chair/seated massage. Additionally, I have since become certified in Active Isolated Stretching techniques.

I graduated in July of 2013 and went to work for a spa on Long Beach Island. I learned a lot, mostly about what type of atmosphere I wanted to work in. In August of 2014 I joined Moran Family Chiropractic Center in Manahawkin and found my massage home. Dr. Mike and I have very similar ideas about patient/client care, and we both agree our patients/clients come first.

I learn something new everyday from my own research and incorporate a lot of myofascial release in my work. Fascia is connective tissue that covers the entire body just under the skin. When fascia is in a solid state, movement is uncomfortable and muscles feel tight and achy. You may have a hard time doing everyday things. When fascia is released from its solid state, by means of heat and pressure, it become gel-like and then massage therapy can become extremely beneficial. Deep tissue massage can really only take place once the fascia is in its gel state. If you have gotten a deep tissue massage and you were very sore afterwards, it is most likely because your fascia was not sufficiently warmed to the gel like state.

In October of 2014, I discovered an energy work called Reiki, and decided to add that to my wellness toolbelt. I am attuned to Level 2 Reiki, and often add Reiki to sessions if I feel the client would benefit from it. Clients can choose to just receive Reiki, with fees at $100 for a one hour session. Reiki is received fully clothed, with just shoes off. Reiki is an energy that is around us all the time. I am attuned to that energy (through a special ceremony and training), and can ask that energy to flow through me into the client. It is very calming and peaceful, with a lot of warmth generated by the energy, and you may feel sleepy, go into a dream like state (or fall asleep), you may even have visions. Many people don't feel much of anything but feel very relaxed during and after a treatment. Reiki flows to where it is needed, I cannot direct it, but it flows to where it can do the greatest and highest good for you.

In my treatments, I also use Young Living Essential Oils. I add essential oil to my massage crème, and I will also use my diffuser during treatments if I think it can provide additional relief. I do not generally apply essential oils directly to a client's skin in case they are very sensitive. If you are interested in having essential oils used during your treatments, that is something we can discuss before your appointment.

I am currently seeing all clients at Moran Family Chiropractic Center in Manahawkin. Please call 609-597-0707 to schedule your appointment. I see clients Monday-Friday, with hours from 9-1 pm, and 4-7 each day. 30 minutes=$40, 60 minutes=$70, 90 minutes=$100. 20% discount for your first visit. We run specials from time to time, so be sure to find us and like us on Facebook.

While I do not provide hot stone in my mobile practice, I love hot stone work

Swedish

The primary focus of my 900 hour training was in Swedish techniques

Myofascial Release

I use myofascial release in 99% of my work

Other

I am a Certified Reiki Master/Teacher. Reiki is an energy modality, done while the client is fully clothed (except shoes), and is a very relaxing treatment. Reiki works on all levels: physical, emotional, mental, for a total body|mind|soul treatment.

Cupping Methods

I use silicone cupping in my practice for an alternative to deep tissue. In some cases, I need to lift the tissue to promote circulation and blood flow rather than compression of the tissue as in deep tissue. This type of cupping does not leave the circular bruising that is well known among the Olympic Swimmers.

Chair Massage

Chair massage in a variety of settings: corporate, private events, vendor fairs
