SacredStone
Massage & Healing Arts was founded for those looking for
something different from their massage experience.
Are
you looking for a deeper level of healing? Maybe a connection to a
quiet place of sacredness that is often missing in this busy and
chaotic modern life?
We
are so humbled and grateful to offer something that helps. Stone
Medicine is a traditional healing method that blends together ancient
ceremonies and stones, therapist and client into a session that flows
like a graceful dance.
Stone
Medicine is not intended only to affect the physical body, but the
emotional and spiritual body as well. By clearing the body of
unhealthy energies and reconnecting it to the perfect balance, the
body’s ability to heal itself is re-established.
We
offer deeper levels of relaxation and physical and emotional healing
to our clients. They soon become healers of their own bodies!
OUR THERAPISTS
Dennise Thomas, LMT/CST is a Licensed Massage Therapist graduated from the Virginia School of Massage and provides almost a decade of experience in the field.
She is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). She is also a Medallion Member with the Upledger Institute International providing CranioSacral Therapy and Somato Emotional Release. She specializes in Stone Medicine Healing Arts and is very passionate about her practice.
She is also trained in other modalities such as Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point, Shiatsu, Acupressure, Fire Cupping Massage, Himalayan Salt Stones Massage, Thai Massage/Stretches, Tibetan Vibrational Sound Therapy, CranioSacral Therapy, Reiki and Gem Stone Reflexology.
After almost 20 years in the medical and customer service field, she longed for a career in Massage Therapy to help her husband with his Chiropractic practice, just to soon realize massage therapy and helping people is her passion! She was already familiar with the benefits of massage, for as a teenager her mother was first introduced to chiropractic/massage care as a way to help relieve tension and pain after a very bad fall and that ended in a low back surgery.
She comes from a lineage of healers. "My Great-Grandmother was an indigenous Taino Indian and she was loved by everyone in her community as a healer and doula. She provided massages for pre-natal and post-partum mothers, babies with reflux and colic and anyone in need of her healing touch".
She is also considered an "Intuitive Therapist". This means she lets your body do the talking. "I do not pressure or force the body to achieve wellness goals. I call my bodywork unique with a blend of techniques and various modalities customized to benefit my clients needs. For some people "Deep Tissue" is all about the pain. If you are looking for someone to hurt you, I am not the therapist for you. I believe more in warming up the tissues and slowly work the muscle. Knots and tension will disappear when your body is ready to let go without the "No Pain, No Gain" approach."
This career has given her the opportunity to start her own business and help others find a path towards wellness. Having worked alongside chiropractors, physicians, athletes, accident victims, expectant mothers, children as well as elderly. Focusing heavily on therapeutic massage because so many people experience chronic pain that often do not respond to traditional medical treatments, and who are, therefore, searching for an alternative solution alleviating long-term pain, and discomfort. She founded SacredStone Massage and Healing Arts to address these types of issues.
"Stone Medicine has taught me that each session is a ceremony. That by offering my services I am helping my clients find moments of sacredness, healing and wellness". - Dennise Thomas, LMT/CST - Owner & Licensed Massage Therapist
Lauryn
Handley, LMT is a Licensed Massage Therapist graduated from Advanced Massage
Therapeutics in Louisville, Kentucky.
She completed her 625 hours of education in Swedish Massage,
Injury and Pain Assessment, Deep Tissue (including Myofascial Massage
and Trigger Point Therapy), and Anatomy and Physiology. She is now thrilled to have finished with school and stepping into a career as a Licensed
Massage Therapist.
Her path to massage therapy was not straight and narrow. Just a year
before going to school for massage she graduated from University of
Louisville with an accounting degree and started a job as a Corporate
Accountant. As she found her self feeling energetically drained at the
end of each day, she knew she had to
make a change. Longing for something fulfilling, that allowed her to connect with people and to her self.
Massage
came to her mind for a few reasons. Before the pandemic she had started
getting massages every few months and felt such peace every time she walked into a practice. The energy matched her so well! Beyond just
enjoying the massage, she was curious what it would be like to be able
to help people with their wellness journeys as a therapist. When
considering leaving her accounting job, she looked up great careers for her personality type and massage therapy popped up as a top result,
reminding her of her previous curiosity. She took it as a sign and
decided to attend an orientation at a massage school in town, took a
leap of faith, put a two month notice on her corporate accounting
job, and decided to dive into her future career.
Now
as a new therapist, she is looking forward to finding her own grounding that allows to best serve her clients. Interested
in combining relaxation with therapeutic work to minimize and manage
chronic pain for her clients and help them connect to themselves on
their own healing paths. Also hoping to explore
energy work, as she is also freshly attuned in Reiki I & II which is a great addition to her massage practice. All-in-all she is looking forward to a fulfilling career of continuous learning, growth, and
building genuine connections with clients, fellow therapists, and her self. She is thankful for those who are willing to trust her with their healing journey!
"My touch is a balance of knowledge, strength, and therapeutic healing; my goal is to customize your session to your specific needs". - Lauryn Handley, LMT
