Philene Harston

Let's work together to get you better!

I know what chronic pain feels like.

And I know what it steals from you -- time away from your job, social events, fun with your family, time spent enjoying your hobbies.  It steals your joy.  You simply cannot enjoy life when you are suffering.  I want to work with you to change that.

And I know what it steals from you -- time away from your job, social events, fun with your family, time spent enjoying your hobbies.  It steals your joy.  You simply cannot enjoy life when you are suffering.  I want to work with you to change that.

My name is Philene and I began my journey as a Licensed Massage Therapist over 20 years ago after a motor vehicle accident left me with severe migraines and widespread soft tissue pain later diagnosed as fibromyalgia.  I decided to specialize in the John Barnes method of MFR (myofascial release) because I believe it's the most effective treatment method to help clients overcome chronic pain patterns and return to their active lives.

This is not a "dig out that knot" massage.  This is an intuitive bodywork which focuses on the fascia, a fibrous covering of muscles, tendons, organs, veins -- virtually everything in the body.  MFR requires sustained pressure on areas of tension and restriction until a release is experienced. It's a slow, meditative and relaxing massage.

Myofascial Release

John Barnes Mobilization Massage seminar on using MFR to relieve pain and restore function in the body. We were taught to assess for restrictions, discussed appropriate treatment options, differentiate from various types of release and restrictions, and practice within a closely monitored classroom setting. Educated on home exercise program.

Myofascial Release for Fibromyalgia

A two-fold seminar focusing on opening up the lumbar/sacral region to help enhance breathing for the client. This can result in excess energy the client has been lacking and can be used for cellular repair and all those daily activities they've been unable to do! The second-fold deals with the cranial and cervical areas where most fibromyalgia sufferers hold both physical and emotion pain in enormous amounts. Various techniques were learned to help the body release restrictions and reduce tension.

Myofascial Release Intensive

Looked at the foundational principles of direct and indirect MFR applications.

Registered Art Therapist

I have been a Registered Art Therapist since 1992 and have worked extensively in the behavioral health system. I mention this here because the mind and body are connected. I help art therapy clients use the art-making process to get out of their heads and start thinking from a place of intuition. The focus is on the process and not the product.
