Massage Therapy is an excellent tool to be used for relaxation,
relieving stress and muscle tension, or assisting in rehabilitating an
injury. If you are uncertain which treatment will benefit you, discuss
your needs with your therapist when you arrive for your appointment.

In the event that you become injured, ill or have an infection
prior to your appointment please contact the UNL Massage Therapy Office
at 402-472-0738 to speak with a massage
therapist about whether or not you should reschedule your appointment.

For your first appointment, arrive at least five minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This allows time for the necessary paperwork. Also allow extra time depending on your familiarity with our room locations.
First Massage Experience
When you arrive, the massage therapist will explain the procedures, techniques, and discuss your expectations for the massage session. We want you to be as comfortable as possible. Feel free to ask questions before, during, and after your session. Here are a few commonly asked questions:
- What do I wear?
When you arrive, your therapist will ask you about any specific needs for your massage and then leave the room so you can undress. You can undress to your level of comfort. You will lie underneath the top sheet. As your massage therapist works on you, he/she will expose only the area that will be worked on.
- Do I talk during the session?
The main communication relates to your comfort level, e.g. do you want more or less pressure, are you experiencing pain in certain areas. General conversation during your massage is not necessary - you can talk as much or little as you like or none at all.
- Can I work out before or after my massage?
- Before: Yes, but allow at least 30 minutes for your body to relax and get back to a normal blood pressure and pulse. Please shower before your massage appointment - both for sanitary reasons and to allow our massage creme to work properly on your skin.
- After: Yes and no, depending on the type of massage you received and the length of your session. The deeper the massage and the longer the session, the more time your body needs to recover. If you had a long, relaxing session, your body will not feel like doing anything but relaxing.
- Should I keep my appointment if I'm feeling ill?
No. Massage will only worsen your symptoms. Cancel/reschedule your appointment online or call 402-472-0738.
- Do I have to drink water after my massage?
It's key to replenish the water in your muscles. You don't have to drink extra water, unless you already dehydrated before your session. Drinking water is available in our massage offices.
- May I tip my massage therapist after the session?
Our therapists are healthcare professionals and do not accept monetary tips. The best tip we can receive is you referring your friends, family, and co-workers to our services and making frequent treatments part of your health regimen.
- Will my insurance pay for my massage session?
- Yes, but only if...you have been in an auto accident that is causing muscular pain and your doctor has prescribed massage and the at-fault insurance company has knowledge of your prescription and will pay it. If you are in this situation, please inform us when you schedule your appointment, either in the Special Needs Section of the online appointment schedule or by phone 402-472-0738.
- Insurance will not pay for other health, body-alignment, and/or muscular pain that you haven't seen your doctor for. You can call your insurance company to find out how a massage claim is covered. If you have questions regarding insurance payments, call us 402-472-0738 and we'll gladly discuss it with you
