Weight training and having a healthy lifestyle have been passions of mine for over 25 years. Injuries are almost always unavoidable with intense, heavy training on a day to day basis. While medications can be very beneficial initially for pain and inflammation, they can have more serious side effects when taken long term and can jeopardize the integrity of tendons, putting one at risk for more injuries.
Physical Therapy had been prescribed to me by a neurologist I had seen after a serious cervical injury and after a year of medications that had caused complete havoc in my digestive tract, amongst other problems. Along with heat, ultrasound, stretching and therapeutic exercise the PT had performed myofascial release massage on my cervical area. This had brought significant and immediate relief. Although the relief had lasted only a day or two after each session, it gave me hope that, one, I was able to reduce pain without meds and two, my condition would eventually improve with continued Physical Therapy.
It was at this time I realized that massage was going to be a regular part of my recovery program. I learned as much as I could about my condition, how the body works and how it has an innate ability of healing itself, sometimes with the needed help of a knowledgeable practitioner.
After a long career in the food industry, I decided to pursue my passion in the health and fitness business. I worked for several years doing personal training and nutritional counseling and eventually looked into schools with a massage therapy program. In 2010 I entered into a school and have been doing massage on a daily basis since I began class.
My massage sessions are not the typical Swedish, spa type massage. I use a combination of sports massage, myofascial release, and facilitated stretching to help break up adhesions, stretch the fascial tissue, relax the muscle, increase blood flow ultimately reducing pain and initiating healing to the injured area.
I specialize in treating athletes of all levels with back and hip injuries.
If you are an avid runner, bodybuilder, soccer player or a stay at home mom that enjoys walking on the treadmill and a back injury has been interfering with your routine then call me today to set up an appointment so I can help you on your way to recovery.
I also provide corporate and on-site chair massage at business or any event.
