I was 13 the first time my back went "out". I suffered pain frequently as a teenager and young adult. Varying degrees of discomfort along with a general sense of unease became my norm. In college I discovered yoga, which empowered me to participate in my own well-being. Soon afterwards I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy and was delighted to realize that avoiding inflammatory foods supported my freedom and mobility. I explored all types of bodywork (Rolfing, trigger point therapy, Swedish massage, cranial sacral therapy, polarity, chiropractic, Somatic experience, movement techniques, and more!) and benefited greatly from all of them.
In 2003 I graduated from the New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts in Santa Fe. I had a new-found passion for helping people with Swedish massage. Over the years I became rather disenchanted as clients left my care feeling relaxed and improved and returned a few weeks later in the original state of dysfunction. My personal studies led me to realize the importance of the body-mind connection, and how our beliefs affect our reality. I also began to explore the concept of spiritual healing. Not that our spirits ever need healing. Spirit is eternal and invulnerable; it can never become ill or damaged. However, somewhere along the line, most of us forget that Spirit is our Essence and begin to identify with our thoughts and bodies. Lasting healing comes from remembering our Essence and reconnecting with our Spirit.
My practice as a Reiki practitioner began to deepen and I noticed that the benefits of the sessions I was offering became more profound. Clients were releasing long-held resentments and fears, were transitioning in areas where they had been feeling stuck, and were feeling safe in this world as they began to remember that they are inherently lovable and sacred beings. My bodywork shifted from focusing on releasing muscle tension and physical imbalances to a more holistic approach of energy healing. While I still use lots of soothing touch (rather than the simple hand placement of traditional Reiki), pressure points, nervous system unwinding, and mobilizations my intention is releasing unconscious and energetic blocks to wellness, supporting the return to wholeness, and being a loving, non-judgmental listener who guides a reunion of body, mind, and Spirit. hide
