Functional Range Systems Practitioner

My background (and first love) is Massage Therapy. I graduated valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA from Cortiva - CSMT and I've had my license since Jan 2010. My background (and first love) is Massage Therapy. I graduated valedictorian with a 4.0 GPA from Cortiva - CSMT and I've had my license since Jan 2010. Later, I went to NPTI for a NASM Personal Training Certificate in Oct 2014 and went on to receive my Crossfit L1 the following year, Oct 2015. With these fundamental disciplines I was introduced to Functional Range Systems in 2017 and attended my first course - Functional Range Conditioning - in 2018. The content of this course hit me like a ton of bricks and I immediately realized my perspective on human movement, massage therapy and training was lacking, to say the least. This led me down a rabbit hole of passionate personal study into understanding the behavior and mechanisms of human cells/tissue to apply (with great success) to my manual therapy and training. For the rest of 2018 and 2019, I collected the Functional Range Release Spine/Upper Limb/Lower Limb certificate as well as the Functional Range Assessment certificate, all of which which are hands-on therapy-based practices. As for fitness, I consider myself a jack of all trades and am intrigued by many different disciplines. As a result, I have pursued many different types of fitness but have yet to become a master of one. Most recently my interest and focus has been Powerlifting, increasing aerobic/anaerobic capacity as well as learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I've also been doing more personal study on the effects of stress, heart rate variability/polyvagal theory, whole food nutrition/microbiome and their relationship to health optimization.

In March of 2019, I decided to mesh all my education together and practice Functional Range Systems inside Big Shoulders Crossfit under the "The Better Humans Project". The rest is better humans in the making!

REVIEWS for my Bodywork services

This was my first full body massage and my life was seriously changed. I loved it! It was a very relaxing atmosphere and I loved Katie’s use of essential oils and aromatherapy- it really enhanced the experience. I appreciated how Katie asked questions before we started about any areas to concentrate on or avoid. And I appreciated her feedback afterwards about any areas where I held tension, etc. I would highly recommend and am trying to convince my husband now to consider a monthly treatment for stress management. Thank you so much Katie!

Katie was told I was in excruciating pain and she got me in right away. I appreciate her calm and patient approach to diagnosing the problem. I felt better right after an hour with her and continued to feel almost free of the original pain.

Katie was amazing! She was very informative and professional throughout the whole appointment. I’m like a broken down car that’s been sitting in the garage for a long time waiting to be fixed! Katie found me and is starting to restore me. After the first visit I was able to feel the difference. It’s going to take a bit to restore me however, when your vintage it’s worth every appointment! Thank you again Katie!!

Katie is very professional and knowledgeable. She has helped me out tremendously with pain in my left hip. My pain is gone and I have an increase in my range of motion. I highly reccomend her for any aches, pains, or motion issues. She explains what she's doing and why she's doing it in a way that's easy to understand. She rocks!

Katie speaks a lot about technical terminology that needs to be addressed to understand what is going on and what needs to be done. Katie is very educational and professional.

Katie did a great job of adapting her original treatment plan to accommodate an acute back issue in addition to her original plan. She also explains things very well which helps me see the importance of doing the homework assignments. I am very optimistic that I will make significant progress in the next few weeks/months.
