About Michelle Martino, LMT, RN, BSN
I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist since 2008 and a Registered Nurse since 2013. In 2015 I completed my Nurturing the Mother course and became a Certified Nurturing the Mother Pregnancy Massage Therapist. I am also a Level II Reiki practitioner in the Usui tradition trained by Robin Albright, LMT. I combine relaxation and deep tissue techniques with feedback from my clients to help achieve their goals. I chose to become a massage therapist when I realized that I was capable of using my hands to bring people relief from pain and help them feel comfortable in their bodies. I was practicing as a massage therapist for about two years when I enrolled in nursing school. While researching birth, and recognizing the desire I had to help mothers and their families by nurturing moms throughout the pregnancy, I saw the need for a nurturing birth experience as well. I opened a massage therapy practice in Columbus in 2015 and am doing work that fulfills me spiritually by helping others with a holistic approach. My passion is honoring women on their journey as mothers, and helping people reconnect to their bodies by helping to relieve stress and bodily discomfort. I truly feel that when we are comfortable in our bodies we are more free to explore our inner selves and connect with others.

About Massage
Massage therapists use a variety of manual techniques to manipulate soft tissue in order to relieve tension and promote relaxation. Massage has many benefits including improved circulation of blood and lymphatic fluids, helping to alleviate conditions such as high blood pressure and depression, and the ability to help relieve muscle tension and soreness related to chronic pain, repetitive stress, athletic activity, and other activities of daily living. Massage therapists communicate with clients to determine a therapeutic level of pressure for the client's desired outcome. Deep pressure should not be confused with deep tissue. When pressure is hard enough to cause pain, it can actually be counterproductive by causing muscles to become more tense. Deep tissue techniques are used to access deeper tissue and release trigger points. They are also very helpful in relieving delayed onset muscle soreness in people who are physically active, such as athletes and those with labor intensive work. These techniques may at times cause brief discomfort in areas of chronic pain or stress, but the discomfort should not be lasting, cause muscle tenseness, or strain your muscles. Clients should drink plenty of water after a massage, which will help you remain hydrated and offset possible resulting muscle soreness.
