Massage Therapy
Applied Sciences- Associates
Not only did I complete 4 years of training in the Ohashiatsu program, I also repeated many of the levels by assisting the directors. I took extra educational classes in 5 Element Theory, as well as Zen spirituality. For a short time, before moving, I worked on members of the Chicago symphony, and at upscale hotels in downtown Chicago.
Massage Therapists are required to keep their licenses updated by taking Continuing Education courses. I have taken many courses over the years. And I have trained in spa therapies as well. The following is a list of modalities I am adept in. Medical massage, Shiatsu, Esalen, Reflexology, Spa therapies such as scrubs, body wraps, scalp massage, dry brushing, aromatherapy, chakra meditation, hot stone massage, myofascial release, stretching techniques, relaxation as well as deep tissue massage.
After taking Anatomy and Physiology 3x, I definitely feel more confident. Working in Surgery was an exciting experience for me. I especially enjoyed seeing inside shoulder and knee joints through the scope lens. Understanding how arthritis and wear and tear generally progress has made me a more compassionate massage therapist.
In 2019 I became an NCBTMB Approved Provider, so I could offer continuing education for licensed massage therapists, Nationally. The classes I teach are technique driven and apply to spa therapies. Prior to becoming an AP for CE, I taught a few semesters at various massage schools, over the years. Sharing my experience and knowledge with others is a service I value and enjoy.
After successfully practicing massage and spa therapies for over 10 years, I became the Spa Director. Understanding fully the customer service side of the day spa from all angles. Education is the sleepy underside of massage. Whether the therapist is learning through listening or actually furthering ones expertise. I enjoy learning and sharing what I know. I am always happy to make recommendations and or referrals.
