My junior in high school while my mom began her schooling to become a massage therapist, my understanding and love for bodywork began. In the year to follow I was a guinea pig so many times for her and had watched most of her lecture videos that by the time I graduated high school I was fully aware that massage therapy was in my future but was given an invaluable piece of advice from my mother. She said that I needed life experience before I went into formal training of bodywork. I value that advice and make sure that I keep in mind with every single person that I see.
I started at the AZ College of Massage Therapy in October 2001 two years after graduation from high school during which had a job with an amazing chiropractic office. Dr.Genet allowed me to come into her office visits and would let me feel different pathologies, look and explain x-rays, perform therapies of hydrotherapy, electric muscle stimulation and operate the traction tables as well as watch while evaluations of the spine and muscle and nerve testing were being performed. Her husband, Dr. Amoia was a former player in the NFL and had graduated from ASU which was important because for fun on the weekends I was allowed to go into practices and track and field events and set up my table to give out free massages to all the athletes. This was AMAZING!!! I learned so much about structure and function of the body, movement, impact and how it all relates and changes the body forever!
When I moved home to Maine after the birth of my first child, I was not able to work as much with the universities in the area but have done different events for charity with runners and also do stretching classes for some of the teams locally to Newport where I live and grew up in. My focus is not just on sports massage any longer but I work at a chiropractors again finally and feel like I am at home with my work and what I really believe in.
I provide so many different modalities and work towards your goals but also help to educate you on what might actually heal you for GOOD!! I look at more things on how you spend the quantity of your time and try to figure out the link on what is THE thing making your symptoms increase and intensify.
I now spend the majority of my time at Northeast Chiropractic Center with Dr. George De Maertelaere and am having wonderful success with patients blending treatments for both skeletal and muscle systems both helping directly with the nervous systems. I continue to focus on the modalities most are familiar with including Deep Tissue , Swedish and Trigger Point Therapy but I have my own blend built for you which can change up each visit. I also incorporate some different modalities including Russian Sports Massage, Neuromuscular Re-education, Structural Integration and Active Isolated Stretching. I perform postural evaluations and stretching classes with 1-4 people in office, more if out of office and also do 30/60/90 minutes of bodywork sessions.
My Newport facility, RiverWalk Nutrition and Fitness is now opened since August of this year, 2015!!! Two days out of the week I split time between the two offices. I also live at this facility with my husband and two girls!! We also have yoga classes available here and when I have some time to study for my certification I will be utilizing the gym to train people!! Very exciting things but let me help reeducate your muscles and help with either injury care or prevention!!! Call today!hide
