If you’re looking for a soothing ‘spa’ experience, this isn’t the place for you. No flutey music or fluff-n-puff back rubs here. This is a medical & sports massage therapy clinic. We are all about thinking outside the box to find the true source of your pain & dysfunction. Additionally, we will work together to help you gain relief by means of corrective exercise and by guiding you in tweaking your personal habits to benefit yourself. You will likely experience some discomfort during & after your first visit - you may even hate us for a day or two. But think of it in terms of exercise - an intense workout usually leaves you with some soreness, but it lessens in time with consistency and the results are worth it. Book now & see for yourself!

Robert Douglas graduated from Georgia Massage Institute in 2008. There he was trained in Trigger Point Therapy by Dr. Kim Miller, DC, a former student of Dr. Janet Travell, MD. (co-founder of Trigger Point Therapy and President Kennedy's White House physician). For 8 years he worked in chiropractic offices and has been exposed to numerous musculoskeletal conditions. Robert also worked for over 4 years at UGA's University Health Center in the Physical/Massage Therapy Department. Robert is trained in a variety of modalities, including: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Trigger Point Therapy, Neuromuscular Therapy, and Myoskeletal Alignment Techniques. Because his efforts are focused on genuinely helping others, Robert considers himself a 'lifetime' student, always seeking to increase his knowledge and understanding of the Human Movement System. In addition to the aforementioned techniques, Robert has also taken courses in personal training and corrective exercise through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. Whether your goal is to gain relief from stress and pain, to improve general function and flexibility, or to achieve optimal sports performance, Robert is well qualified and determined to consistently tailor your massage to meet your needs.

Robert gives a great medical massage. If you’re looking for candles, Buddha statues and bead curtains you’ll want to go elsewhere. We listen to blues and rock and frankly some times it hurts like heck. But I always leave feeling relaxed but also healthier. Robert digs those boulders out!

I moved to the Athens area 2 yrs ago, leaving behind a first class (chiropractic/massage-oriented) professional who had very successfully managed my age/injury/post-op related knottinesses. I was skeptical of finding a provider who could replicate his therapeutic gifts, and his parting advice was to "find someone who does a lot of soft tissue work". Robert (Simply Muscles) for me, is that person. As annotated, his agenda is not to delight your five senses, however, if you're kinked up and you know it- here's where you'll find a straightforward, medicinal massage by someone who, as muscles go, absolutely knows normal from awry. I specifically visit for help with (esp) muscle spasms that set up/sustain radiculopathy, and Robert consistently delivers relief. His space is clean, comfortable, pleasant. I like the background music. His prices are very reasonable, and an exceptional value if you purchase a package vs single visits. I couldn't be happier.

I dreaded going there but after 3 X rays & 90 days of an anti inflammatory with no relief from a constant hip pain I was ready to try anything- I am so happy I made this decision. Robert is very intuitive when it comes to identifying the source(s) of pain and addressing it. Sometimes there is minor discomfort during massage due to my tight muscles, but I WANT the full benefit of the deep stretching and release of tension that I cannot do for myself, and I appreciate him listening & adapting throughout the massage. Love the new office - great location, nice ambience, and free of distraction from others in the office/complex.

I met Robert three years ago. After listening to him talk about muscle dynamics, specific to my injury and how I injured myself, and by allowing him to touch my shoulder to investigate my injury I knew Robert possessed the knowledge and had the skills to deliver message therapy that would help me. If you like deep tissue massage and you are working to get the most out of your body, Robert is the professional for you. He will not waste your time or money rubbing lotion on the surface of your skin; he will get deep, take his time, and educate you throughout your session. He is the only therapist I will refer people to and he is the only therapist I will ever use. I took a stack of his business cards to keep in my office. He's phenomenal. Please note: When booking your appointment it may be worth asking if the male Dr. Chase Lovejoy will be present when you're there. I recommend scheduling AROUND that dude, but Dr. Julie Lovejoy was incredibly warm and friendly.

I've had deep tissue massage before but none that left bruises ( I don't bruise easily). The inflammation is gone but the neck pain and numbness in my arms are still there. To be fair, it may require several sessions but this was my second session with an M.T. but 1st one with Robert.

All things considered Douglas worked on a shoulder that I am still having pain that has yet to fully resolve. It is looser but there are still issues ; burning in neck area, striation down arm, areas cramping & tightening up that is more than soreness from the deep massage. I had not been having any of this stuff prior to an initial session of tightness in the shoulder so no pain being involved then and now debilitating pain that has to be worked out. After 2 chiropractic sessions and no luck- back to massage therapy Overall I am good with the work Douglas provides as he truly focuses upon deep work -with this session using a T-bar. I would recommend Simply Muscles to anyone that needs the kinks worked out- sports/medical massage.

Robert is very knowledgeable and highly skilled. When I was referred to him 3+ years ago, I was locked in chronic pain due to extreme stress and working a "desk job". Robert has the ability to explain complex matters in a simple way, thus making it easier to understand exactly what he is doing to help me, as well as helping me become aware of small changes I can make to help myself. He has made suggestions to help improve posture, and has given me exercises and stretches that give me relief and help reverse the bad effects of sitting and working at a computer all day. Don't expect a "feel good" massage. But do expect to feel relief and learn how to help yourself.
