Healing happens!
I do have a secondary passion and it is for reflexology and Reflex-OIL-Ogy which uses essential oils on the feet during your reflexology session. Did you know that a lot can be determined by your feet and helped with foot reflexology? Reflexology is an adjunctive to wellness practices to facilitate healing in the body. There are 26 bones and over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot. We put our feet through a lot and this can cause these bones to be misplaced causing undue pressure on these many nerves slowing down blood and nerve supply affecting the organs, glands and systems in the body. As a result of this slowing down of the circulation, we have a formation of chemical deposits from products of metabolism or waste matter forming in and around the misplaced joints causing stagnation. Reflexology frees up the crunchies thereby increasing circulation throughout the body. Stagnation is death, circulation is life.
FAQs
What is fascia? Fascia is a web that connects everything in the body. Fascia, being fluid filled, conducts light with vibration and frequency much like fiber optics. Repetitive stress, trauma, subconscious holding patterns, etc., can cause fascia to become hard and sticky, losing it cushion and stretch, and behave like shrink wrap clamping down on pain-sensitive structures restricting movement and causing pain. What you can learn from myofascial release and the unwinding that can occur gives you the power to self-heal and maintain your vitality while becoming biologically more youthful with more fluidity and ease of movement. My goal is to help you return to an active pain-free lifestyle; one that will allow you to shine as a radiant being of light that you were born to be.

Who is John F. Barnes? John F. Barnes, PT, LMT, NCTMB is an internationally renowned therapist, lecturer, visionary, author, and authority on Myofascial Release (MFR). When traditional therapy, medication or surgery have failed to produce the desired results, people come to his treatment centers in Malvern, PA and Sedona, AZ from all over the world. After overcoming a serious back injury he sustained while weightlifting in his youth, John has been developing, practicing and lecturing for almost 50 years and training therapists from doctors to massage therapists to utilize his MFR principles.
What is Myofascial Release John F. Barnes approach? JFB-MFR is a whole-system approach. It is done without oils and the client is in comfortable clothing. I visually scan the client and look for imbalances and rotations. With skin to skin contact, I sink to the barrier and wait, taking out the slack for 3 to 5 minutes or longer. I use verbal cues and other methods to encourage the client to take their brakes off and let go. Other methods such as rebounding and trigger point deactivation may be used and unwinding may result, which is spontaneous movement, sound or internal processing. This leads to authentic healing. JFB-MFR differs from other types in that I am trained to never force, lead or stop abruptly as this can injure or be unsettling. By patiently following the fascia and allowing enough time for completeness (phase transition), true release can be achieved and, therefore, lasting results. I am trained to treat the whole person and not just the symptoms. I locate areas of restriction that are hot, hard or tender, but look elsewhere for the cause.
What is a healing crisis? This can occur after your fascial system has been accessed and is completely natural as your entire being is being freed from 'stuff' long held onto. It can take many forms from being 'stirred up' to pain, nausea, restlessness, bathroom frequency, dreams, nightmares, etc., and usually does not last long. This type of pain is not injurious, just passing through and out of the body, mind, soul, emotions and memory. Healing occurs not in a straight line and sometimes you take a few steps back before making leaps and bounds. You cannot rush nature and must be patient. Plenty of fresh water, healthy food, gentle stretching and napping if possible or going to bed early is helpful.
What I do: As a skilled
JFB-MFR therapist, I read, assess, find and release various areas of
restriction. By following John’s
principles, I create a space for others to let go of mental chatter to create
present moment awareness of feeling, to feel into the pain, so they can get in
touch with their true essence. We need
to feel in order to heal on all levels.
MFR clears the trauma out of the matrix of the cellular memory. Through listening with softness, waiting with
patience, going deeper, feeling for openness, I will hold space for my clients,
keep them safe, respond with awareness, presence of mind, careful dialoging,
and help get them to the point where they can find their own answers with new
awareness so their inner healer can heal past wounds. I encourage others to embrace the chaos and
embrace the fear! By doing so, this has
the power to transform. They don’t need
to figure it out and they don’t need to understand it. Their mind-body wisdom knows exactly what
they need. They may get worse before
they get better (healing crisis), but clarity comes after confusion. At some point, they may get insights and
memories of long ago events. I will be
there, gently ushering them to take the brakes off, to let go and trust the
process.
After the
session, I will demonstrate and offer MFR self-care stretches and tips utilizing
therapy balls and encourage hydration and healthy nutrition to aid their
healing process and sustain the progress gained from treatment. We do better when we know better.
I vow to
keep getting treated with JFB-MFR myself as John says, “you can only take your
clients as far as you have gone yourself.”
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is gentle work done from the tailbone, along the spine, jaw and skull. It can unlock stuck energy from a past event for expanded wellbeing, deeper connection with self, inner clarity, and a sense of aliveness. The craniosacral system is a shock absorber for the central nervous system (spinal cord & brain) and within this dural tube is precious cerebrospinal fluid, which moves in a gentle wave-like motion. I will assess this fluid motion throughout the body and note where it is compromised or restricted due to scarring, injury or jamming of the bones and sutures of the skull. Treatment includes the principles of MFR, which include gentle stretching, traction, holding, rocking of the body to stimulate release and rebalancing of the entire system. Intraoral work may be used to treat dental or TMJ problems using a latex-free glove. JFB-MFR and CST can unlock and reawaken the inner healer that we all have.
Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Reflex-OIL-ogy
My training is in the Ingham Method Reflexology (NOT ASIAN STYLE), which deals with reflex areas in the feet and hands which correspond to all glands, organs, systems of the body. Stimulating these reflexes properly can help many health problems in a natural way for maintaining wellness. I may also use Young Living Essential Oils, which are premium grade essential oils that are custom selected and used on the feet and other parts of the body. This treatment is called Reflex-OIL-ogy, which creates an oxygenated impulse flow of enhanced energy movement through the body's reflex areas in the feet and hands and each of its systems. Essential oils are applied with specific application techniques to reflex areas, vita flex points, meridian points, and body parts.
Healing is a journey, not an event. -J. F. Barnes
My Story
After
personally going through a near-death situation and other severe head and neck
traumas, along with physical and psychological abuse that caused me to
dissociate or live an out-of-body existence and the subsequent deterioration of
my health, I vowed to find true healing yet only through natural holistic
methods. I have tried many healing arts
over the years, but found nothing lasting.
I needed healing so I eventually went to massage school in 2010. I knew that one day I would find the answer
to my search through yearly continuing education for my license. In school is where I was first introduced to
myofascial release. After having strange
experiences in class and on my own at home, I was intrigued. I went to a husband and wife team in Omaha
who did myofascial release and craniosacral therapy. I was finding great relief, but needed more
training to learn to understand what I was doing and how to use it more. I experimented at home on myself and my cat, who was a rescue, and had some incredible things occur.
After the releases, I noticed my cat’s personality completely changed
from temperamental and wicked to sweet and loving. My long quest for authentic healing luckily
led me to a John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Seminar (JFB-MFR) in Sedona 2015, which was simple yet mind blowing and in a magical place. The complex fascial system and how to treat
were made easy to understand with simple yet profound lecture and fascinating demonstrations,
then immediate practice on one another.
Having MFR and CST throughout the days of the seminar produced my first
of many healing crises (where you are worse before getting better) and
considerable and lasting health improvements!
Each seminar I attend leads first to a new awareness, then a health
crisis (I get stirred up), then improved health and functioning. I have come a long way thanks to this type of
bodywork. I would not have been able to
do any type of bodywork if it were not for being treated with myofascial
release and self-MFR care. Incredibly
grateful, I have made it my mission to give thanks to God for allowing me to survive
and JFB-MFR allowing me to create a new life to live that I have dedicated my life in the service of
my fellow earthlings, human and animal.
The inner
journey is not the most important journey, it is the only journey. –J. F. Barnes
